21 Savage Arrested by U.S. Immigration, Faces Deportation

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 21 Savage, claiming he’s actually from the United Kingdom. He was arrested in Atlanta during a targeted operation, according to ICE spokesman Bryan Cox, and is set to be deported.

The rapper whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is actually from the United Kingdom, according to ICE officials, and reportedly entered America legally in 2005.

Officials state that Savage “subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa” and has been placed into removal proceedings.

ICE spokesman Bryan Cox addressed the issue saying:

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta.” “Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.”

However, attorney Jacoby Hudson, who worked with the artiste on getting his 2014 conviction expunged disputes Cox’s latter claim.

“He’s not a convicted felon, so they reported that wrong, from their 2014 arrest,” Hudson said. “That arrest should be expunged. He has no felony convictions.”

TMZ then reached out to Savage’s lawyer, Dina LaPolt, and received the following statement:

“We are working diligently to got Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged mothers and youths in financial literacy.”

The rapper wasn’t arrested as part of a Super Bowl-related ICE operation. He reportedly was in a car with another undisclosed individual, who was later revealed to be hip-hop artist was Young Nudy.
