The Lagos
State Ministry of the environment has arrested three environmental
impostors who disguised as officials of the ministry to exploit
residents in the Lekki/Ajah area of the state.
The suspects, Olusegun Wasiu, Shina Ahmed and Muyiwa Olusegun were
apprehended by the enforcement and advocacy team of the ministry
following a tip off directed to the Director, Enforcement and Advocacy
of the ministry, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi.
They were alleged to be involved in extorting money from developers and residents.
Speaking on the development, the state Commissioner for the
Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti urged Lagosians to be careful
of individuals who deceive people using fake identification cards
stressing that such people do not represent the Lagos State Government.
Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti explained that Lagos State officials
particularly staff of the Ministry usually operate in groups and are
always accompanied by men of the Nigerian Police Force anytime they
engage in enforcement duties.
He tasked the people to validate from the Ministry any notice issued particularly if they are in doubt of such notice.
“Lagosians should feel free to report suspected impostors to the Ministry or the nearest police station”.
The Commissioner stated that no individual or group would be allowed
to hide under the state government’s resolve to maintain zero tolerance
to all forms of environmental abuse and extortion. According to him,
anyone caught impersonating government officials would be dealt with in
accordance with the law.
He also advised residents to be vigilant and report any environmental impostors operating in their area to authorities.
